1. Client Background

The client was developing a new Canadian pickleball and lifestyle brand and was looking for a manufacturing partner for its first premium pickleball paddle line.

Rather than developing a completely new mold for the initial launch, the client wanted to start with an existing proven/open-mold design and customize the branding, colors, components and packaging. The goal was to validate the paddle platform with samples before committing to production.

2. The Initial Customer Requirement

The customer was particularly interested in a premium 16mm raw carbon/T700 paddle with an all-court performance focus: control, spin, forgiveness and good power.

The initial request covered model recommendations, construction details, sample pricing, MOQs, production pricing, customization options, packaging, lead times and USA Pickleball approval considerations.

3. Gloperti’s Initial Response

Gloperti first introduced two existing paddle platforms and explained the available fiberglass and carbon fiber material routes. The response also covered custom face graphics and colors, edge guards, grips, end caps, paddle covers and retail packaging.

This approach allowed the customer to evaluate existing production-ready platforms before investing in a new mold.

4. Five T700 Models Compared

After reviewing the initial options, the customer narrowed the project to five premium 16mm hot-pressed/thermoformed T700 configurations:

  • T700-3
  • T700-4
  • T700+EPP
  • T700-5+EPP+EVA
  • T700-5+XPOP

The customer requested paddle dimensions and shape, handle specifications, finished weight, swing and twist weight where available, core construction and density, perimeter foam information, carbon layup, raw T700 surface details, edge guard and grip options, USA Pickleball approval status and sample pricing.

5. Technical Comparison

The technical comparison was based on a 16mm hot-pressed/thermoformed T700 platform with a four-layer carbon construction. The supplied technical information indicated an approximate finished weight of 230g ±5g.

6. EPP, EVA and XPOP Core Options

CoreSource-based characteristics
EPPExpanded Polypropylene closed-cell foam; lightweight, low water absorption and good fatigue/compression resistance. The supplied description positioned it as a firm/solid-feeling option balancing power and control.
EVAEthylene-Vinyl Acetate foam with damping and a softer/plush feel. The supplied description associated it with vibration reduction and longer dwell, particularly for touch-oriented play.
XPOPA proprietary modified polymer foam with a fine, uniform cell structure, described in the supplied technical material as balancing EPP stability with EVA softness and offering a muted, medium-firm feel.

7. Sample Development

Rather than moving directly from specification review to bulk production, the customer chose to order samples first. Sample payment was completed and Gloperti arranged sample production.

The purpose of the sample stage was to let the customer and local players evaluate the different paddle options before confirming the production model.

8. Customer Sample Feedback

“I have received samples today. They are great.”

This feedback confirmed that the sample stage had successfully moved the project from technical comparison into final model selection.

9. Final Model Selection

After receiving and evaluating the samples, the customer selected T700-5+EPP+EVA as the preferred model for the LVN 01 project.

Gloperti then confirmed that mass production would be arranged following the customer’s selection.

10. Why This Development Route Worked

  • Lower initial development risk: the project started from an existing proven/open-mold platform rather than a completely new mold.
  • Technical comparison before commitment: five T700 configurations were reviewed before the production model was selected.
  • Physical sample validation: samples were produced and received before mass production was arranged.
  • Private-label flexibility: the project allowed customization of graphics, colors, grips, edge guards, end caps and packaging.
  • Scalable production path: the customer’s stated plan was to begin with a smaller initial run and increase quantities as the brand grows.

11. Project Timeline

  1. Initial inquiry: Canadian brand requested premium 16mm T700 options.
  2. Platform discussion: Gloperti introduced existing paddle platforms and customization routes.
  3. Technical comparison: customer requested detailed specifications for five T700 configurations.
  4. Sample order: customer completed sample payment.
